This little orchid skirt was one of my favorite purchases from last Spring. Fast forward to a year later, and it’s still one of my favorite things in my closet. And even though on its own it’s a pretty statement piece, I love that it goes so well with other bright colors, giving me endless options to style it different ways!

I am on the short side at 5’3″, so I tend to shy away from midi-style dresses and skirts. Because of my smaller stature, longer lengths typically tend to swallow me up and not be particularly flattering. But because it’s a style I love, I do keep trying it in different silhouettes and prints as the seasons change, hoping to find something that will work for me. And this spring, I FINALLY found a midi-dress that is not only comfy and has pockets, but the print and style actually work well for my shorter frame.

Sightseeing in NYC

Yesterday I talked a little bit about the importance of having balance between classic and fashion pieces in your wardrobe. But another important closet category that I didn’t mention, is staple pieces. If you have been following this blog for any amount of time, then you know staples are something I talk about a fair amount, i.e. denim jackets, surplus vests, nude pumps, black handbags, dark wash skinny jeans, etc. And so today, I wanted to highlight one of my personal favorite closet staples, and that is a casual long-sleeved black dress.

This closet staple is the perfect blank canvas, is easy (and comfy!) to throw on and go, and can be styled in a plethora of different ways. So if you don’t own a casual long-sleeved black dress, then you are in luck, because I’ve listed my favorites below!

As soon as the temps begin to warm up, and the clocks spring forward, I always start thinking about what I want to wear for Easter. Yesterday I mentioned that I celebrated the wedding of two dear friends this past weekend. And today’s outfit is what I wore to the brunch the day after the wedding. I have worn this plaid shirt a ton over the last few months because it’s a super easy piece to style in a multitude of different ways (it was last featured on the blog here). So it was a no-brainer to throw on, and left me feeling super comfy, yet put together.
