Summer Dresses

I am and always have been a jeans and t-shirt kind of a girl. But last summer, I made an effort to start wearing more dresses. Especially during the summer months. And you know what? It is definitely something that has stuck. I find myself wearing more and more dresses these days without even making a conscious effort to do so. And this easy, breezy swing dress from Express is at the top of my list. I first found the long sleeve version this spring (which you can see how I styled it here), and then found it in sleeveless stripes, and now in this gorgeous cobalt blue. It is definitely a go-to in my wardrobe and as I head out on vacation today, you can guarantee it’s packed neatly in my suitcase!

T-Shirt Dress

I am a huge fan of t-shirt dresses. And I have been especially loving this one lately. First of all, it’s striped (duh!), second, the high low hem-line makes it really unique, and last but not least, it’s under $10! Say what?? Don’t you just love a good deal on a great closet staple? I know I certainly do. PLUS, this is another great example of a piece that is perfect for now and later!

Burgundy

When it comes to shopping, I am not very good at purchasing items in advance for an upcoming season. Instead, I am more of a buy now, wear now kind of girl. So this time of year gets to be a little tricky for me. While August is one of my favorite times to shop because of all of the amazing deals, summer is also running short on time, so I want to be careful and not purchase things that I am going to have to put away in a few weeks. So instead, I look for transitional items to add to my wardrobe that I can wear now and wear later. And this dress is a great example. I had been eyeing it in a bright pink color for quite sometime, but when it recently went on sale, I ultimately decided to buy it in burgundy because not only can I wear it now, but it will look great layered with leopard, and booties, and jackets and sweaters!

Color

I can already feel myself doing it. Gravitating towards neutral and fall colors. And while I love it, I know I need to slow down and appreciate the colors of summer. White After Labor Day

I’m baaaaaack! Been a bit of a rough week for me over here. I got some bad spider bites while we were on a float trip this past weekend and have been having an allergic reaction to them in the form of hives all over my arms and legs! Gross! Didn’t figure you all would want to see that on the blog, so I’ve just been taking it easy this week.

Fortunately, I started to feel a little better last night which is why I’m finally back today. And good thing too, because I want to talk about how much I love white pants!! I was so hesitant to buy them at first because I knew I would get them dirty (which I pretty much do every time I wear them), but it has been so worth it. Not only do they look great with almost every cute summer top in my closet (especially bright colors!), but I can’t wait to transition these bad boys into Fall with booties and oversized sweaters! Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day???

Summer Fashion Hacks

I love a good striped dress. And with the slightly cooler weather here in the SLC that has been layering itself in with our typically hot temps, I have found that some evenings, it’s nice to have a light coat with me as an option. Plus these tassel shoes. I can’t even. I’m pretty sure they are my favorite purchase from the #NSale. They are less than $90 and also come in black and red. Fiesta!

I’ve been a little slow to hop on the off-shoulder-trend. It’s not that I don’t love it, because I do. My hesitation has been that I have broad shoulders and assumed it was a silhouette that would accentuate this and make me look wider on the top than I am. But once I started trying a few off-the-shoulder pieces on, I realized how wrong I was! And this dress is no exception. Not only is it fun and flirty, but it has beautiful laser cut trim, and makes me like I am going to a fun party or a fiesta! And even better than that? It’s under $20!!! I am really on a stripe kick these days. And this dress from Express is seriously one of my very pieces in my closet. It is cute and comfy and the perfect piece to throw on for a BBQ, bike ride, dinner at home, or for a night on the town. All you have to do is change out your shoes and jewelry and it takes on a completely different personality every time. In fact, I love this dress so much (and it’s on sale for such a great price!) that I just picked it up in two more colors!
