Yesterday I talked a little bit about the importance of having balance between classic and fashion pieces in your wardrobe. But another important closet category that I didn’t mention, is staple pieces. If you have been following this blog for any amount of time, then you know staples are something I talk about a fair amount, i.e. denim jackets, surplus vests, nude pumps, black handbags, dark wash skinny jeans, etc. And so today, I wanted to highlight one of my personal favorite closet staples, and that is a casual long-sleeved black dress.

This closet staple is the perfect blank canvas, is easy (and comfy!) to throw on and go, and can be styled in a plethora of different ways. So if you don’t own a casual long-sleeved black dress, then you are in luck, because I’ve listed my favorites below!

Classic

In my opinion, an ideal wardrobe has a good mix of both classic and fashion pieces. And while it’s fairly easy for me to list off my favorite places to pick up great fashion items (ASOS, Nordstrom, Express, H&M, Zara, etc.), I think it can sometimes be a bit trickier to find a tried and true classic resource.

So when I was introduced to Cabi clothing last year, I was thrilled because I knew it was going to be my go-to brand to fill in the classic pieces that my closet was missing. And while you’ve probably seen me post a few Cabi items on the blog here and there, this navy jacket has got to be my favorite purchase so far. It is a perfect staple jacket year round, and looks fantastic with a multitude of different outfits. Plus the fabric is fantastic and ideal for traveling!

I’m not the most quintessentially “girly” dresser. And while I love dresses and skirts, I typically tend to gravitate towards denim. However, when I spotted this cute skirt, tied with a bow, I knew it would be a great piece to add to my wardrobe. Especially since it’s under $30!

Plus how great are these Valentino dupes? Not only are they super comfy (and cute!), but they are under $70!

I was recently asked by StyleWatch and JCPenney to participate in a blogger challenge. And I happily obliged! I was given a $50 gift card and tasked with putting together a whole outfit, or selecting a statement piece to build an outfit around. And let me tell you, it was really fun deciding which option to choose.

It had been a little while since I had been into a JCPenney, and it was a really positive experience to get to reacquaint myself with the store. But more than anything, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cute brand called Belle + Sky (TM). I ended up trying on armfuls of adorable things (I had to make 2 trips to the fitting room!), but ultimately settled on this hot pink moto jacket. It was originally $100, but was on sale for 40% off, and I found a coupon online which placed it right within my budget! So that was a huge score. I also ended up picking up a couple of other cute dresses (on my own dime!) that I ‘ve linked below!

As soon as the temps begin to warm up, and the clocks spring forward, I always start thinking about what I want to wear for Easter. And today’s outfit would be a great option for an Easter dinner or brunch, or even a more casual church service. Not all outfits are created equal. There are always some that I love more than others, and this is definitely one of those. Perhaps it’s because this dress reminds me of something that I wore when I auditioned for collegiate music programs back in the day, or perhaps it’s because it incorporates so many of my favorite things (surplus vest, yellow pumps, Panama hat, dress with pockets, etc.) into one look. Whatever the reason, this is just one of those outfits that really feels like “me”, and one I can’t wait to wear again!

Denim Vest

Another day, another vest. Or so seems to go my wardrobe rotation these days. But really, I just can’t help it. Vests are the perfect piece to throw on this time of year for a little extra layering.
