Teen Spirit

Oh, the ’90’s. NOT my favorite era in fashion. Maybe it was because I was an angsty teen trying to navigate my way through junior high and high school, or maybe my sense of style was a little more girly than grunge (thank goodness for Clueless!!). But I must say that I am enjoying revisiting certain pieces made famous during that decade-specifically flannels. Not only are they comfy, but they are super cute and look fantastic back to fun jewelry, boyfriend jeans, and a great pair of pumps. A little grunge glam if you will. Which in my book, is hands down much better than just plain old grunge.

Afro Circus

Whenever I put on polka dots, which seems to be pretty frequent these days, the Afro Circus song from Madagascar always seems to pop into my head. And if you’ve ever heard that song before, you’ll understand why I think it’s safe to say I’m as crazy about polka dots as Chris Rock.

I’ve always been a glove girl.  But when I was doing some Christmas shopping  at Target a couple of weeks ago and spotted these adorable polka dot mittens, I knew I needed to give them a try.  And boy am I glad that I did!  Not only are they incredibly comfy and cozy, but their sherpa lining kept my hands surprisingly warm at J’s final Cross race of the season on Saturday.  Which also proved to be a very snowy and blustery day.  I think it’s finally safe to say that winter has officially arrived in the SLC!!

FPF: Pitchnic World Premiere

Some of you may remember this post that I shared back in May when Justin and I attended the annual spring fundraiser for Spy Hop (one of our favorite events of the year). But for those of you who don’t, Spy Hop is a tremendous organization in our community that gives high school kids the opportunity to participate in the arts outside of the regular classroom. And we have been blessed to have the opportunity to become involved and give our support to some of their programs. One of which is a film making program.

At the fundraiser last spring, the kids pitched 4 different films to us and we were able to bid on our favorite and help with the costs of creating the films. So last night, 6 months later, we attended the world premiere party and first time screening of these films. And this morning I am still blown away by their talent, their poise, the caliber of the films we saw, and the excitement for what lies ahead for these bright young people.

It was 72 degrees in the SLC yesterday, so I was thrilled to have the chance to wear a dress and pumps with no tights one last time this season.  But I didn’t want to look too summery, so I took one of my favorite summer dresses, and paired it back to a cardi, a cognac belt, and some leopard pumps to give it more of a fall feel.  I love pieces that you can transition from season to season.  They are the best investments you can make in your wardrobe!

Happy weekend everyone!

L.O.V.E.

Does anyone else remember that Ashley Simpson used to have a music career (outside of her lip synching debacle on SNL)? I had completely forgotten until I saw this shirt hanging on the rack at one of our Macy’s stores. And like a tidal wave, the bubbly lyrics and catchy tune of L.O.V.E. came flooding back to me and I knew the shirt had to be mine.  😉

But in all seriousness, and aside from my forgotten love for the younger Simpson’s bubblegum pop, I have been obsessing over graphic tees all fall. They are fun, catchy like your favorite pop song, and have the potential to add a little sass to any outfit while boasting the comfort of a t-shirt. And not only that, but in addition to obviously being great with jeans, they work well with blazers and cardis, colored and printed skinnies, and even skirts and leggings. Just another fab item to add to your wardrobe helping you to create endless outfit possibilities!

I actually wore the above outfit on a road trip to Montana this past weekend.  It was comfy and cute, and an easy transition from 8 hours in the car straight to dinner with family and friends.  The only thing I had to do was change my shoes.  I wore the black boots pictured above for dinner, but wore my Uggs in the car to keep me comfy and warm.  And although sometimes tough to create, I often love outfits that can transition from one event to another the best.  The older I get, the less time I feel like devoting to changing my clothes throughout the day so I’m always a huge fan of items that make things easier.  So if you are on the hunt for a great graphic tee, H&M and Forever21 are always a great place to start and should both have plenty of options at affordable prices!

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
