Nickel Creek

If you know me personally, then you know I LOVE music.  And if you don’t, well now you know.  I also have a pretty broad taste in music, thanks to my dad’s influence growing up and studying and pursuing music in college.  And while my love for music is broad, there are a handful of bands/musicians that are especially near and dear to my heart.  And one of those such bands is Nickel Creek.  I have been a huge fan of theirs since the late ’90’s when I first fell in love with country and bluegrass.  And when they broke up in 2007 before I had a chance to see them live, I was pretty devastated.  So when they announced they were getting back together this year and starting to tour in May-I knew I absolutely had to see them.  And as luck would have it, the 3rd stop on their Dotted Line tour just happened to be in Salt Lake City.  So J and I scored amazing 3rd row tickets and have been counting down the days to the show.  And I have got to tell you, the musical talent that this band possesses is truly mind-blowing.  It was an absolutely incredible show and I can’t stop smiling today thinking of the magic we saw last night up on that stage.  So if you love bluegrass or appreciate musical talent, then check and see if Nickel Creek is coming to your town.  And if they are, GO SEE THEM!  I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Now on to today’s outfit, which is actually what I wore to the show last night.  Casual, but cool with a fun pop of color.  When I go to a concert or show I always like to wear a cute tank/cami with a jacket so that I can take the jacket off if I get warm, or leave it on if the venue is cool.  In my book, it’s always good to be prepared for either possibility.  I am also a high heel kind of girl, but always make sure to wear my comfy heels so that my feet can be sure to last through a night of dancing…

Black and Blue

As I’ve said quite a few times this Spring, I am loving the color blue-especially anything in cobalt.  It is such a rich, gorgeous color and looks great back to a multitude of other colors.  But despite it’s versatility, sometimes pairing it back to plain old black is the perfect combination…

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I had a fantastic birthday celebration in Vegas, but I must admit, I’m a little sad it’s all over.  Sometimes the things we look forward to the most always seem to pass us by the most quickly, don’t they? And a very special thank you to all of you for the sweet birthday wishes over the weekend.  I appreciate you all SO much and you helped to make my day extra special!

Birthday Balloons…

I have always wanted to do a blog post with balloons (thanks a lot, Pinterest), but the opportunity had just really never presented itself.  That is until yesterday, when J surprised me with flowers and balloons before we left town for a quick weekend birthday celebration. And so today, in honor of my birthday, I thought I would celebrate by accessorizing my outfit with a whole bunch of pink balloons.  Because if you can’t accessorize with balloons on your birthday, then really, when can you?

Derby Style

Even though I was born and raised out west, I did live in the south for a few years when I pursued a country music career and attended college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.  And let me just say, my years in the Music City were some of the best of my life. There is just something about the South that is so near and dear to me.  What can I say? I’m a country girl at heart. And because I especially love all of the incredible traditions that come from the South, J and I decided to throw a Derby party this year.  I have always wanted to host one, but haven’t had the chance since I moved to Utah.  But this year, it was the perfect excuse to get extra dressed up, enjoy the gorgeous weather, drink cocktails in the afternoon, and celebrate my birthday (a few days early) with all of our favorite people!  It was a great time had by all, and served as the perfect reminder to wear big, floppy hats more often!

Back To Basics

Sometimes when I am shooting outfits for the blog, I feel like I need to layer on extravagant jewelry and accessories, and create outfits with lots of details and interest.  I mean obviously, those types of things photograph better, and I, of course love the challenge of coming up with unique combinations of patterns and accessories to share with you guys (not to mention that it keeps you all interested)!  But on a daily basis, my style is really pretty simple.  And so today, I thought I’d take you back to the basics and share with you an outfit you would most likely catch me in during the work week: a go-to pair of black skinnies, a comfy button down, minimal jewelry, and a great pair of pumps.  Ok, ok, so maybe the pumps aren’t so basic.  But what can I say?  Shoes are my weakness!

P.S. Can you believe the snow on the mountains behind me?  We had been having such gorgeous weather and then over the weekend, it turned on a dime.  Gotta love spring in the Rockies!

Bag Lady

I love handbags-like really love them.  They are my jam, if you will.  And every spring when I receive my annual bonus, I like to treat myself to a new one as a little reward for a year of hard work.  Usually I know without a doubt which one I want to add to my collection (last year was an amazing limited edition yellow studded Michael Kors), but this year I am on the fence.  It’s obvious I am gravitating towards a tote, but there are so many gorgeous bags available this spring that I just can’t seem to make a decision.  So I have to ask, which one of the below bags is your favorite?  And what style handbags are you all craving this Spring?  Spring "It" Bags

Jean Jacket

Whether you call it a denim jacket or a jean jacket, if you don’t own one, then you should! Denim jackets are a key item for Spring, and a great investment piece that will last you for seasons to come. And while they are a great layering piece while we wait for the temps to warm up, they are also really cute. In fact, my favorite way of styling them as of late is back to flirty dresses and skirts-allowing me to get into my summer wardrobe a little earlier than usual.  And if you are really feeling the denim jacket this season (like I am), then I would be sure to venture out and purchase one in both a dark wash (see yesterday’s post), and also in a light wash…

Tulle Cool For School

Ahhh tulle, how I love you so.  So fun, so whimsical, and the perfect fabrication to make any girl feel like a princess.  And let me tell you ladies, tulle isn’t just for ballerinas anymore.  So if you are looking for something different (and super fun!) to add to your wardrobe this spring, then a tulle skirt is the ticket.  You can wear them back to anything from a t-shirt, to a blouse, to a button down, to a jean-jacket.  Rest assured, you will be pleasantly surprised at the plethora of things you will able to style your tulle skirt with.  But perhaps more importantly, how fabulous it will make you feel…
