I love a good monochromatic combination. And while my instinct is usually to use neutrals for monochromatic looks, this necklace/sweater combo has convinced me that it works really well with with color (especially neon!) too!!

Whistle Blower

Even though my husband always tells me that I look like a referee every time I wear anything black and white striped, I refuse to be deterred. And when I spotted this skirt at Forever21, I knew it was right up my alley (hello, stripes!). Maxi skirts are really the perfect transitional piece of the moment that you can wear now, and later. And I am always a fan of adding pieces to your wardrobe that can serve a variety of purposes. An added bonus?? While I am not tall by any means (5’4″ if I’m stretching on my tiptoes), the long flowing vertical stripes of this skirt give off the illusion that I am actually taller than I am. Hallelujah!

So I’ve got to be honest, I’m a little sad to be back to the grind today. J and I had the most fabulous time in Nica and it’s hard to believe it’s over already. But the good news is, we have family in town visiting and spent the weekend catching up on life and sneaking in some time on the slopes.

I love stripes-any time of the year and for any occasion. And I especially love this JCrew striped mini. I love the vibrant colors mixed with a splash of gold. It feels festive and fun, while still being super casual (if you want it to be). I am even loving mixing metals and wearing both silver and gold with this particular piece. There was a period in time when I went a little overkill on the whole polka dot thing, so I made a conscious effort to cut back. I love this sweatshirt. In fact, it was the only piece I ended up buying (well, keeping) from the 3.1 Phillip Lim and Target collaboration this past Fall. I love how playful and fun it is and I especially love that current fashion has made it perfectly acceptable to wear a good old sweatshirt back to boyfriend jeans, red lipstick, and high heels.

Even though I am a color person, sometimes there is nothing I crave more than a basic neutral outfit without any color what-so-ever. It is such a chic, blank slate and something about that just feels so refreshing. But I have to tell you, that when it came time to photograph this outfit, my husband laughed at me! Like, an actual, audible, are you really wearing that kind of a laugh! Turns out he thinks my vest looks like a shag rug! And I have to say, I think he’s right. But on the other hand, I also have to say that I love this vest. I tried to hunt down the original jacket version that was popular on so many blogs earlier this season, but didn’t have any luck. So I was thrilled to stumble upon it as a vest. And not only is it a vest (and I’m pretty obsessed with vests) but it’s super cozy and soft, and it even has pockets. So at the end of the day, I love it and am resolved to rock it-even if my husband thinks I look like I’m wearing a giant piece of carpet for a top!

There was a period in time that I wore this denim vest so much that I had to make a conscious effort not to wear it so often. And I did such a good job of avoiding it that it ended up buried in the back of my closet and forgotten about for a period of time.
