I am fairly short, at just 5’3″, but I have long legs and a short torso, so shopping in the petites department doesn’t typically work for me. I normally just buy regular sizing, and if I ever run into a pant inseam that is a little too long, I just take them to my (amazing!) tailor here in the SLC. So when I spotted this cute peplum jacket a couple of months ago at Macy’s, and the XS was too big for me, I was initially at a loss. But when I noticed it also came in petite, I decided to give it shot. And guess what? It worked perfectly! It was a great reminder for me that if I ever have trouble with regular sizing, that petites can be a great alternative. So if you are on the short side like me, don’t forget about the petite department!

I am loving the pleated trend this season. And of course navy. I don’t know what it is about navy dresses, but I am always drawn to them. So when I spotted this navy pleated number at BCBG, I knew it was a great summer dress-perfect for a plethora of different occasions, and an easy piece to style a lot of different ways. Tailor Made

As I’ve gotten older, I have learned the importance of a good tailor. And that just because something doesn’t fit you off the rack, doesn’t mean that it can’t still work for you. And the dress in today’s post is the perfect example. My mom and I stumbled on this gem at Anthropologie when my parents were in town a couple of weekends ago. It was originally $228 and we found it on the sale rack marked down to $48 (um, WOW!). It was the gorgeous fabric that initially drew me to it, but the original length was tea length and it just swallowed me up and was really unflattering. But neither of us could get over the fabric (you should see it in person!) so we hatched a plan to have it shortened and I took it to my tailor (who also couldn’t get over the fabric), and he shortened it for me for a mere $20. And I have to say, I think it is one of my very favorite dresses in my closet right now. I guess it goes to show that it can be worth it to think outside of the box a little bit. So if you don’t have a tailor, I would definitely suggest finding a good one in your neighborhood-you just never know when they might come in handy!

Sunshine On My Shoulders

A yellow blazer is a piece I have been wanting to add to my wardrobe for the last 5 years, but I have never been able to find quite the right one. And after searching high and low for so long, I had all but given up until I saw this one in the window at Zara in downtown Seattle a couple of weeks ago. I knew the minute I saw it, that it was exactly what I had been looking for! And I absolutely LOVE it! I know I’ve said it before, but blazers are a great investment piece to add to your wardrobe. Not only are they classic and never go out of style, but you can wear them to just about any event-whether it be social or work related. Like I’ve always said, leopard can be used as a neutral and works well back to pretty much any color you have in your closet. But truth be told, leopard and red is one of my all-time favorite combos-a pair that I often find myself gravitating towards. And since neutrals have been reigning supreme in my closet as of late, I decided it was time to put a little pop of color back in my wardrobe-and this was the perfect choice!

Shades of Pink (and gray!)

I’m baaaaaack!!!! 🙂 Hope you guys don’t mind that I took a few days off from sharing outfit inspiration to enjoy my vacay in Nicaragua with my hubby. We had such a fun and relaxing time-but it’s nice to be back home and feels even better to be getting back into a routine-which of course, includes blogging!

So if you hadn’t already noticed, I’ve been really into a neutrals as of late. And as a professed lover of color, this is definitely a change for me. But one combo I have always, loved, whether I am in a neutral or color phase, has always been pale pink and gray. It is such a timeless and simple combo and perfect back to a bright pink pump if you are looking to add a little extra punch of color!

I love a good shift dress. It’s a great way to look polished without really putting in much thought or effort. Because let’s face it, sometimes getting dressed can be really HARD (no matter how many clothes you have in your closet!). So I always try to have a couple of these on hand in basic colors-a wardrobe hack, if you will. They are super flattering on just about any body type, and pair well with boots or pumps, blazers or denim jackets, and also happen to look great paired with faux fur vests! So if you don’t have a basic shift dress in your wardrobe, you should. Just another one of those items that will give you a ton of outfit options without breaking the bank!

The Road Less Traveled

Fall in Utah is my favorite. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but it seems to last forever and the weather is unbelievably amazing.
