Leopard Tunic+A Little Update

It’s hard to believe it’s been exactly 3 months since my car accident.  In some ways, it feels like 3 months of my life have been completely lost to the fog of this concussion, as I’ve battled severe sleep deprivation, fatigue, a newfound fear of driving, mild dizziness, vision issues, and a roller coaster of emotions on top of some already difficult life circumstances.  I haven’t been able to partake in a lot of the things that I love, like skiing, biking, Orange Theory, hiking, going out with friends, or even shopping.  And despite really disliking hospitals, I have found myself having to go to countless appointments with my neurologist, my neuropsychologist, and my balance and mobility therapist. Fortunately, I’ve been starting to see some pretty significant improvements over the last couple of weeks, and am beginning to feel more like myself.  But looking at the last 3 months as whole, if I’m being honest, it’s been really, really hard.  And some days I kind of just want to wallow in my own self pity. Ha!

I think I realized a few weeks ago that one thing I was really struggling with was the fact that someone else’s bad decision has had such a negative and lasting impact on my life.  And I was feeling kind of angry about it.  But then one morning I was sitting in my neuropsychologist’s office, and he asked me if I am the type of person who believes that bad things just happen, or if I believe that bad things (or good) happen for a reason.  And for me there was no hesitation.  As a Believer, I am definitely a person who believes the latter.  While we can’t always see the bigger picture, his question put things into perspective and reminded me that Jesus is authoring the story of our lives.  And in some way, shape or form, this accident is a part of my story.  One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 5:3-4: “suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character, and character, hope”.  I’ve seen friends recently walk this out so well and have admired them so much.  And as I sat in that office that morning, I was overcome, because I realized that I too can persevere.  So then and there, I made the decision to stop feeling sorry for myself and to commit to walking  through the aftermath of my head injury in this way, with perseverance, character, and hope. Because while I can’t control the decisions and actions of others, I can control my own.

So here’s to a positive mindset, a grateful heart, continued improvement, and (what you probably really came here for), more outfit posts!!  And a huge thank you to you all for all of your support.  You guys really are the best.

Green for Christmas

I love red and sparkles so much, sometimes I forget about wearing green during the holidays.  So when I saw this choker top at Express, I knew it would be perfect back to my favorite black faux fur vest and studded booties.  And not only does this look work perfectly for the holidays, it will work well beyond the month of December too.

And Happy Friday!

Shades of Burgundy

I typically tend to gravitate towards red during the holiday season.  But another great color option (that is often forgotten in place of its brighter counterpart this time of year), is burgundy.  And I am loving the soft combo of this taupe crushed velvet dress back to burgundy accessories and a dark lip.  And would you believe this dress is on sale for less than $30?  It would be perfect for a Christmas or NYE party!

Holiday Style with Banana Republic

I am so excited to be teaming up with Banana Republic today, to style this cute dress for the holiday season.  And while this is such an easy piece to wear a multitude of ways, I am especially loving it mixed with festive plaids for the month of December.  Plus, it has pockets and is on sale for 40% off this weekend (along with everything else at Banana)!

Hooded Parka

I have to say, even though I grew up in Montana, and now live in Utah (making me a seasoned winter veteran), I am having a hard time getting used to the cold this year.  So thank goodness for hooded parkas with faux-fur trim, and cozy sweaters (this one is super soft and on major sale) to keep me warm!

Sequin Top

Give me all the sequins.  All the time.  And pretty much anything else that’s sparkly, while you’re at it!  I have to say, one of my favorite things about the holiday season is all of the fun, festive, glittery pieces you can incorporate into your wardrobe.  And this top is one of my favorite things I’ve ever purchased.  I also love thinking outside the box when it comes to sequins and am loving this top styled with a casual beanie and destroyed denim.  But I also can’t wait to dress it up a bit for a holiday party either.

Faux Fur Vest

I love a good faux fur vest.  So when we woke up to our first snow in the SLC yesterday morning, a cozy vest was the first thing the I reached for.  For me, they are a winter staple.  Plus, this outfit would be another great option for your Thanksgiving day dinner!dsc_2830 dsc_2861dsc_2883 dsc_2853 dsc_2832dsc_2897 dsc_2852 dsc_2876 dsc_2885

Red Pop

Besides sequins (and velvet this year!), one of my favorite things about dressing for the holiday season, is incorporating pops of red into my outfits.  Whether I’m dressed up, or casual, I love how a subtle pop of red, like a fun pair of shoes (and a Starbucks red cup, of course!), can give your look a festive feel!

Green Suede Jacket

I am all about shades of green this season.  In fact, I can’t seem to get enough.  And while I’m typically drawn to shades of olive, hunter green has been at the top of my list this year.  It just feels like such a fresh and updated take on this versatile shade-particularly when it’s done in suede.

Neutrals

Olive and nude is always a favorite color combo of mine.  And this olive tunic is so soft and cozy (and under $40!), it’s pretty much my favorite purchase of the Fall season.  I’m also loving this faux suede vest.  It is just one of those pieces that I will be able to get a ton of wear out of. And you know I always love (and recommend) pieces that are a good investment!

P.S.  I am going to take a little mini-break from my social media/blog for the next couple of days.  I am participating in a fast with my church, Antioch SLC, and have opted to give up social media and tv for the next couple of days to spend some time focusing on my walk with God.  But I will be back to my regular posting on Wednesday evening, so be sure to check back then!!!
