Second Chance

There is a funny saying floating around Instagram that says: “Nothing haunts us like the things we didn’t buy”.  And every time I see it, I have a good chuckle, because sometimes it isn’t that far from the truth!  Such was the case for the sweater in today’s post.  I tried it on at JCrew last summer and decided not to buy it (even though I loved it). And I have always regretted not purchasing it.  So when I saw that JCrew Factory released an almost identical version  a few weeks ago-I pounced!  And I am SO glad that I did.  Not only did I get a great deal on it, but it is such a pretty and unique piece that I know I will wear for years to come.  Thank goodness for second chances!

Print Mixing

I love that it’s perfectly acceptable to mix different prints together (thank you Jenna Lyons!).  I mean really, a couple of years ago, I never would have thought to wear leopard and tribal prints together. In the same outfit.  But for whatever reason, it works.  And perhaps more importantly? It’s FUN.  And in my book, fashion should always be fun, don’t you think?

Sunshine

I am a huge fan of pink, but it’s the color yellow that will always be number one in my book.  So when I saw that my favorite shirt comes in a brilliant shade of yellow for Spring, it was a total no-brainer for me.  And while I dressed it down today with my favorite military vest, I am already scheming up more ways to wear this fabulous shirt!  Don’t love yellow? Don’t worry.  This blouse comes in a multitude of colors and is the perfect top to add to your closet for work OR play!

Olive

I love olive green-particularly with leopard and gold jewelry.  It is a combo that I often find myself reaching for-whether in the summer or the winter.  And what do you know?  My favorite denim jacket is making yet another appearance on the blog!  Hopefully you guys aren’t too sick of it yet.  Ha! Like I always say, a denim jacket is an important investment piece to add to your wardrobe.   Not only are they versatile, but they go with just about anything, and those are the smartest pieces you can add to your closet!

Happy Tuesday, friends!

Be Mine

J and I are going to be on vacation over Valentine’s day again this year, so my date outfit will most likely consist of some sort of bathing suit and cover up.  BUT that doesn’t mean that I won’t be sharing some V-day outfit inspiration with all of you on the blog this week!  And today’s outfit is all about pink!  I always feel my best in a pretty silk top styled with skinny jeans, pumps, and a chic black jacket-so some sort of version of this outfit is always a no-brainer for me when it comes to date night.  And adding a bright pop of pink makes this go-to combo perfect for a Valentine’s night out on the town, or a more low key date night in…

And even though I’ve said it a million times, I just have to say it again.  These silky v-neck tops from Express are the bomb!  And I am especially smitten with all of the fun new spring colors hitting the stores right now-like this neon pink version.  It is definitely going to be on major repeat in my closet this season, and should be in your’s as well!

Happy Monday!

Cardi

I’ve been really into cardigan sweaters lately.  They are so easy to slip on over a silky blouse for work, or over a t-shirt on the weekend.  I am also finding myself drawn to the slightly longer-length boyfriend fit this season.  Because let’s be honest, anything cozy or gray seems to be on heavy rotation in my closet right now!

Party Pants

Confession time: when I was in high school, my girlfriends and I loved The Spice Girls (like really loved them!)!  So when they came out with their movie, we not only dressed up to go and see it, but we also each had our own Spice Girl name.  And mine was, wait for it, Sparkle Spice!  If you are reading this post and you know me, then this probably comes as no surprise to you.  But for those of you who don’t know me personally, then it should be noted that I LOVE sparkles-glitter, sequins, you name it, if it blings I am in!  So while I feel like people normally bust out their sequins during the holidays or for special occasions, when styled the correct way, I think sequins can be worn any time.  And what better way to dress down a pair of sequin pants than with a favorite tee and a surplus jacket (remember how versatile I said they were in my Wardrobe Staples post??)…

Rehearsal Dinner

If you follow me on Insta (and if you don’t, you should!), then you know I was in Austin, Texas last week celebrating the wedding of one of my best college friends.  It was an absolutely fabulous weekend and I could not be happier for my sweet friend and her new hubby.  And despite my best intentions to take blog photos of what I wore to all of the festivities, I was having too much fun to pause and break out the DSLR.

So even though I’m back home in the SLC, I wanted to recreate for y’all what I wore to the rehearsal dinner.  I haven’t been to many weddings in the winter, and it made me realize that they can be a little tricky to dress for.  Even though Austin is fairly mild, I wasn’t sure it would be warm enough for a sleeveless dress-and I was right.  So instead, I opted to pair one of my favorite skirts from this past summer, with one of my favorite tops from the holiday season.  And I have to say that I really love the way it turned out.  Not only is navy one of my favorite colors for a formal event, but mixing it back to gold and leopard is one of my very favorite combinations of all time-a total no-brainer for such a special event!

I hope you guys are having a great week.  I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier that the end is in sight.  I’m definitely ready for the weekend already!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Denim Jacket

Last week I wrote a post about wardrobe staples.  And today, I wanted to talk specifically about one of the items that I had on my list.  And that, my friends, is a denim jacket.  I wear mine constantly (which y’all have probably noticed on the blog and on my Instagram).  It’s a great layering piece, and obviously a great jacket for milder temps.  And not only that, but it can be worn with dresses, pants, or skirts-dressed up or dressed down.  I am telling you ladies, a denim jacket is season-less, timeless, and it’s a fairly inexpensive investment (which makes it an easy addition to any closet)!  So if you don’t have a denim jacket in your wardrobe, be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post, because I’ve cut out the leg work and have rounded up my favorites just for all of you…

And in case you didn’t notice, I guess I should point out that I am wearing all of the wardrobe staples that I talked about in my post last week-not just the denim jacket.  I am telling you guys, staple items are the key to a great wardrobe.

Hope your week is off to a great start!  Thank you for stopping by!

Blushing

I don’t know what it is, but I have really been gravitating towards neutrals lately.  And while blush pink is the “it” color right now-it has always been one of my personal favorites.  So I have been more than happy to wear my blush pink items outside of the spring and summer months this winter.  But I want to know, how are you guys feeling about blush pink this season?
