Crop It Like It’s Hot

I loved the crop shirt trend the last go around and fondly remember wearing cute crops with overalls and Birks. Heck, I was even wearing crop tops with low-rise jeans performing at the bars in Nashville back in the day! I was also in my late teens/early twenties at the time-so bearing a little midriff seemed perfectly acceptable.  But now that the crop top trend is back, and finding me in my early 30’s, I’ve been a little unsure as to how to tackle this trend.  Because at my age, I’m certainly not going to be running around with my navel hanging out!  And while I’ve done some cute layering looks with crops, that doesn’t exactly work during the warmer summer months.  So for those of you finding yourselves in the same predicament as me, I have found that a super cute and age appropriate way to wear a crop top, is with a high-wasited skirt.  It still gives you the look and feel of the crop, but without baring all of the skin!  And trust me, your belly button will thank you!

Dressy

I have made a pledge this year to wear more dresses.  I’m not quite sure why, but I naturally tend to gravitate towards jeans, heels, and cute tops.  But it gets so hot in the SLC during the summer months, that dresses are really a must.  PLUS they are so cute and comfy and fun and I am really loving all of the vibrant prints and colors that I am seeing available in stores this season.  Case and point?  The dress in today’s post.  Not only does the tribal print of this dress lend itself well back to denim, but because it showcases so many different colors, it will be an easy piece to style multiple ways this summer.  And in my book, versatile pieces like this are the key to expanding your wardrobe without spending a lot of money!

P.S.  If you live in the SLC and love coffee, be sure to stop by the new Publik Coffee.  We stopped in to check it out over Memorial Day weekend and fell in love!  It’s one of the cooler places I’ve been in the SLC.  In fact, it’s actually where we shot these photos. And not only is their coffee and ambiance amazing, but they have an entire menu dedicated solely to different kinds of toast.  Brilliant!

Put A Bow On It

When I think about my own personal style, girly and sweet are definitely not the first words that come to mind.  And while I think hearts and bows and frills are all adorable, I don’t normally gravitate towards those types of ensembles.  BUT, every once in a while, I do think it’s fun to put on a girly dress and pay homage to a more feminine style.  And as an added bonus, while most of us are still experiencing in between temps, I absolutely love the option of wearing a button down shirt underneath a dress to change things up from my typical go-to cardi or jean jacket…

Black and Blue

As I’ve said quite a few times this Spring, I am loving the color blue-especially anything in cobalt.  It is such a rich, gorgeous color and looks great back to a multitude of other colors.  But despite it’s versatility, sometimes pairing it back to plain old black is the perfect combination…

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I had a fantastic birthday celebration in Vegas, but I must admit, I’m a little sad it’s all over.  Sometimes the things we look forward to the most always seem to pass us by the most quickly, don’t they? And a very special thank you to all of you for the sweet birthday wishes over the weekend.  I appreciate you all SO much and you helped to make my day extra special!

Thanks for stopping by!

Light and Airy

I love a good structured peplum top. I am also particularly being drawn towards all things white this season.  So this top has (obviously) been on frequent rotation in my closet as of late.  I am also finding myself gravitating towards anything nude as far as footwear is concerned.  And how could I forget light wash denim for both jackets and jeans?  I guess it’s safe to say this warmer weather has me wanting to lighten things up a bit…

L’eggs Sweepstakes!

Do you guys remember L’eggs when they were sold in the iconic egg packaging?  I know I sure do. And because I always thought of them as an ’80’s staple, I was surprised (and excited!) when they contacted me and asked me to be a part of their 40th birthday celebration and re-launch of their limited edition egg packaging.  Now to be totally honest, I have always been on the fence when it comes to pantyhose and tights, and always have been.  But with the popularity of tights and pantyhose over the last year, I figured why not give them a try.  And I have to say-I am SO happy that I did.  Not only are L’eggs totally affordable (and easy to find-check your local drug store!), but they are super comfy with just the right amount of control around the tummy and thighs.  And with all of these in-between temperatures as we transition into warmer weather, they are the perfect accessory if you are anxious to start wearing all of your spring/summer dresses and skirts (like I am!).

In today’s post, I am wearing the sun-tan shade which gave my winter white legs just the right hint of color and smoothed out all of the unevenness caused by those long winter months of nothing but pants.  In fact, when we shot these photos, my hubby didn’t even realize that I was wearing pantyhose.  BUT he did tell me that my legs looked great!  So be sure to check out L’eggs at your local drug store and go here for your chance to win $1,000 cash and a fabulous trip to Las Vegas! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Easter Best

When I was a little girl, my mom always dressed me to the nines for Easter Sunday-pretty dress, white gloves, and of course an Easter bonnet.  And while I don’t bust out gloves or a new bonnet for Easter Sunday anymore, it is still ingrained in me to get dressed up for the occasion.  And what better outfit for Easter Sunday than a candy colored sweater and pretty floral skirt?

Sequin Peplum

I knew the second I saw this top in person that I had to have it.  I had seen it on the Banana Republic website, but didn’t realize just how gorgeous it was until I saw it in the store. This top is absolutely the prettiest mix of a sequined floral print, with just a touch of neon piping.  And I have to say, it is one of those extra special pieces that only seem to come around every once in a while. And even though sometimes they take  a little seeking out, every girl should have a couple of these extra special pieces in her wardrobe!

A Few of My Favorite Things

I love finding fashion inspiration on Pinterest and Instagram.  And that is precisely where I stumbled upon the jacket and peplum top that I’m wearing in this post.  Both were at the top of my shopping list this fall, and while I didn’t anticipate wearing them together, I am loving the structure and lines of the jacket back to the flirty and almost futuristic ruffle of the peplum. And while my hubs is a big fan of the jacket, peplum remains one of those styles that he just can’t wrap his head around. I guess we can add it to that list of fashions (along with fur vests and maxi dresses) that men just don’t understand…

I LOVE the day before Thanksgiving.  In fact, I love the day before just about any holiday.  What can I say?  I am an anticipation kind of girl.

And while there is so much I am thankful for, this year I am especially grateful for each and every one of you-my readers.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by, your engagement, your words of encouragement, for the friendships we are creating, and for all of the support!   All Dolled Up would not be possible without you!

Wishing you and your families a wonderful, safe, and joyous Thanksgiving.
