Mellow Yellow

As promised, I wanted to show you all my fave JCrew dress without the vest (see the post of it with the vest here), for a little more dressed up version of this look.  Also, it should be noted that I am really loving neon yellow right now.  In fact, it’s kind of to the point where I feel like I just might need an intervention. To me, neon yellow is just like sunshine, only kicked up a notch.  But I want to know what you guys think!  Are you loving this color as much as I am this summer?  And which look do you prefer?  With or without the vest?

Neon Crush

Clearly I am obsessed with neon yellow right now.  It is such a bright and happy color and just oozes summer time to me.  So when I saw this neon yellow lace dress at JCrew, I knew it was the perfect thing to add to my closet.  And because I wanted to be able to wear it not just on special occasions, but on casual ones too, pairing it back to an uber cool surplus vest seemed like just the ticket to tone it down a notch.  And if you’re a regular follower of this blog, then you know I love a good completer piece.  But be sure to check back later this week, as I’ll be showing you how I wore this dress without the vest too!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  I have to tell you guys, my travel schedule has been so crazy, between vacation, work, and a bike race this weekend for the hubs, I woke up in 5 (5!!!) different town last week.  So I couldn’t be happier that I am going to be home (and sleeping in my own bed!) for the next two weeks!  Hallelujah!

Happy Monday, dolls!

Fire In the Sky

Happy Friday everyone!  Remember how I said earlier in the week that I lost all of the outfit photos I had taken while we were on vacation?  Well thanks to my hubby, I was able to salvage the photos from one outfit. And while I am still sad about the others, one, is certainly better than none!  So with that said, I have to tell you guys that I am obsessed with this JCrew top.  I had been eyeing it for quite some time and immediately snatched it up when it went on sale.  The cute embroidered print reminds me of a pink and white Easter dress that I had when I was a little girl, and you all know how much I LOVE neon yellow-a little nostalgia and my favorite pop of color all rolled into one!  Plus, it’s a great statement top that can be easily dressed up or down.  And when the heat index is high, in my closet, easy, breezy, fun tops like these rule!

I’m sure you can tell from the photos, but it was really, really windy when we snapped these pics.  And while normally I would have just waited a day for better weather, the sky was so incredible that I just couldn’t pass up such a gorgeous back drop.  So please don’t mind the wind blown hair!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Crop It Like It’s Hot

I loved the crop shirt trend the last go around and fondly remember wearing cute crops with overalls and Birks. Heck, I was even wearing crop tops with low-rise jeans performing at the bars in Nashville back in the day! I was also in my late teens/early twenties at the time-so bearing a little midriff seemed perfectly acceptable.  But now that the crop top trend is back, and finding me in my early 30’s, I’ve been a little unsure as to how to tackle this trend.  Because at my age, I’m certainly not going to be running around with my navel hanging out!  And while I’ve done some cute layering looks with crops, that doesn’t exactly work during the warmer summer months.  So for those of you finding yourselves in the same predicament as me, I have found that a super cute and age appropriate way to wear a crop top, is with a high-wasited skirt.  It still gives you the look and feel of the crop, but without baring all of the skin!  And trust me, your belly button will thank you!

Dressy

I have made a pledge this year to wear more dresses.  I’m not quite sure why, but I naturally tend to gravitate towards jeans, heels, and cute tops.  But it gets so hot in the SLC during the summer months, that dresses are really a must.  PLUS they are so cute and comfy and fun and I am really loving all of the vibrant prints and colors that I am seeing available in stores this season.  Case and point?  The dress in today’s post.  Not only does the tribal print of this dress lend itself well back to denim, but because it showcases so many different colors, it will be an easy piece to style multiple ways this summer.  And in my book, versatile pieces like this are the key to expanding your wardrobe without spending a lot of money!

P.S.  If you live in the SLC and love coffee, be sure to stop by the new Publik Coffee.  We stopped in to check it out over Memorial Day weekend and fell in love!  It’s one of the cooler places I’ve been in the SLC.  In fact, it’s actually where we shot these photos. And not only is their coffee and ambiance amazing, but they have an entire menu dedicated solely to different kinds of toast.  Brilliant!

Put A Bow On It

When I think about my own personal style, girly and sweet are definitely not the first words that come to mind.  And while I think hearts and bows and frills are all adorable, I don’t normally gravitate towards those types of ensembles.  BUT, every once in a while, I do think it’s fun to put on a girly dress and pay homage to a more feminine style.  And as an added bonus, while most of us are still experiencing in between temps, I absolutely love the option of wearing a button down shirt underneath a dress to change things up from my typical go-to cardi or jean jacket…

Short Story

I used to think the combo of shorts and heels together was kind of silly.  But I have to admit, I am a total convert and wearing heels and shorts together is a summer staple for me. When the weather heats up, I am all about fashion short cuts, and adding heels to any outfit (specifically shorts), is a perfect and easy way to glam up a super casual look…

Connect The Dots

The combination of gray and yellow is one of my all-time favorites.  And when you add polka dots, a pop of leopard, and distressed denim into the mix, in my book, it’s a pretty perfect ensemble(not to mention ideal for the weekend!)…
