She’s Gone Country

I grew up in Montana, but ran off to college in Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University and chase the bright lights and shiny stars of a country music career. And through hard work and determination, I was lucky enough to land a regular singing gig at a bar downtown on the most coveted nights of the week. Oh how I loved that chapter in my life. And while I obviously made the decision somewhere along the line to walk away from it all and pursue a more “regular” life, I will always cherish my years in the Music city and Nashville will always hold an incredibly special place in my heart.

So last summer when a friend told J and me that the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville partners with the Sundance Resort in Utah every year to showcase the best songwriter’s from Nashville at Robert Redford’s beloved (and breathtakingly beautiful) resort, I knew I was all in. And so this year, when it fell over our anniversary weekend, I knew it was the perfect way to kick off our celebration. And a perfect evening it was…

Maxi Dress: American Rag (on sale!) | Necklace: Macy’s (old), similar | Cuff: H&M (old), similar | Sunnies: Rayban | Flats: Rampage (on sale!)

And not only was it a perfect night of music in the mountains, it was also the perfect occasion to wear my favorite maxi dress.  I am so in love with the vibrant colors and soft fabric of this maxi-I just can’t get enough.  And while my hubby (along with most men) is not typically a fan of maxi dresses, he actually doesn’t mind this one.  Lucky for him, because he’ll probably be seeing a lot of it this summer! 🙂

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I love pairing the unexpected together. And while neon plus army surplus might not be something you would automatically think to pair up, together they just might be one of my new favorite combos of the summer. Plus, if you follow this blog, then you know I can’t get enough of this vest and LOVE coming up with new ways to style it (see it here, and here)…

Tie One On

I think it’s safe to say that this look is going to be a staple for me this summer. Since chambray shirts are always on constant rotation in my closet, it’s no wonder that I am loving the new sleeveless version hitting stores right now. And I’m particularly loving them when tied and worn over pretty summer dresses. A look that’s polished and sweet-but easy as one, two, three…

Date Night

I love a good date night outfit. And while I normally use date night as an excuse to wear a cute dress or skirt, sometimes you just can’t beat a good pair of jeans and a sparkly top. Especially when you add some fun accessories…

Change in the Air

I hate to admit, but I can already feel it. Fall is starting to creep into late summer afternoons, the mornings and evenings are a little crisper, and long, lazy, sunlit summer nights are growing noticeably shorter each day. And while I adore fall, I can’t help but grieve the passing of summer every year. But, fortunately, in what could only be described as a coping mechanism fueled by my subconscious, I am suddenly gravitating towards richer colors and earthy pieces, and craving layers, scarves, and boots-a few of my favorite fall things.

So when I was packing to spend this past weekend in Sun Valley with one of my best friend’s from college, I knew that I wanted to bring pieces that still felt like summer but that were easy to layer in anticipation of an even more  palpable  feeling of fall in the air.  And I couldn’t find anything more perfect in my closet than the below maxi dress-strapless with a high slit, but casual in fabric and print, neutral in color, and the perfect companion for a cardigan or dark denim jacket to keep me warm on chilly August evenings in one of my favorite mountain towns…

Gold Watch:  Michael Kors via Nordstrom Rack

Gold Necklaces:  Macy’s

Turquoise Cocktail Ring:  Sundance Catalog

Cat Eye Sunglasses:  LuLus

Gold Sandals:  Mossimo for Target (old)

So while I will no doubt continue taking advantage of the warm weather and summer fashion for as long as I possibly can, pieces like this maxi will continue becoming increasingly more appealing-summer in style yet fall in their coloring making them easily transitional from this season to the next. Perfect hybrid pieces to fill the spaces in between…
