I love a good monochromatic combination. And while my instinct is usually to use neutrals for monochromatic looks, this necklace/sweater combo has convinced me that it works really well with with color (especially neon!) too!!

Whistle Blower

Even though my husband always tells me that I look like a referee every time I wear anything black and white striped, I refuse to be deterred. And when I spotted this skirt at Forever21, I knew it was right up my alley (hello, stripes!). Maxi skirts are really the perfect transitional piece of the moment that you can wear now, and later. And I am always a fan of adding pieces to your wardrobe that can serve a variety of purposes. An added bonus?? While I am not tall by any means (5’4″ if I’m stretching on my tiptoes), the long flowing vertical stripes of this skirt give off the illusion that I am actually taller than I am. Hallelujah!

So I’ve got to be honest, I’m a little sad to be back to the grind today. J and I had the most fabulous time in Nica and it’s hard to believe it’s over already. But the good news is, we have family in town visiting and spent the weekend catching up on life and sneaking in some time on the slopes.

Vacation Style

Hola!! This morning I am writing this post to you guys from San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. If you checked out any of last week’s posts, or follow me on Instagram (alldolledupblog), then you know Justin and I are on vacation. And what a glorious vacation it has been! This is our 2nd time in SJDS and we are absolutely in love. Beautiful town, wonderful people, and an incredibly laid back lifestyle which has made it pretty easy for us to just kick back and relax. The biggest question of the day tends to be whether to go to the beach (surfing for J), or hang by the pool at our house.

We didn’t bring our DSLR with us, so J snapped these photos with his phone out on our patio while we were enjoying our favorite time of the day here…the sunset. Even Jack (our guard dog), loves to sit and watch the sunset with us and insisted in being in some of the photos with me. 🙂 Maxi skirts, minimal jewelry, and bright tanks have pretty much been my go-to uniform since we’ve been here (outside of bathing suits). And I am loving the super high slit of this maxi. Pretty sure it’s my favorite thing that I packed-not to mention that it cost less than $20!!! Tough to beat that!

Glam

I’ve learned a lot about my own personal style since I started on the journey of writing this blog. I’ve learned that I like pants and jeans. A lot. I only like to wear dresses and skirts in the warm summer months. I hate tights. But I really like button down shirts. I love jewelry and accessories, but even though I own a lot of fun costume jewelry (and good jewelry too), I find that I tend to gravitate towards the same pieces on a daily basis. And while I probably dress up a little more than most of my friends, I would still define my style as casual. I’ve learned that glam isn’t necessarily a go-to look for me, but it is definitely one that I enjoy every now and again-especially when I feel like changing things up during the winter months. And I have found that perhaps the easiest, no-fuss way to achieve a glam look (while still maintaining a casual vibe), is pairing a faux (of course!) fur vest, a pair of over-the-knee boots, some chic gold jewelry, and a bold red lip back to a simple sweater and favorite pair of jeans. A glam look that even the most casual of us gals can easily achieve…

Camo Pants

As I’ve mentioned before in a few posts, I am all over the camo trend right now. And when I spotted these pants at the Gap, I knew I had to have them for the Fall season. But apparently so did plenty of other people, because they sold out in my size almost immediately (they also sold out when they had a similar version in Spring). So like the patient fashionista that I am, I waited. And guess what? I ended up finding them in my size on the clearance rack just a couple of weeks ago for a steal of a price. Talk about a stroke of good luck. Don’t you just love happy endings like that?

One thing I feel like I often neglect to write about on this blog is the importance of owning a fantastic black blazer. I think because I wear them for work nearly every day, I forget that it’s a piece not everyone might own. But with the weather changing, I am finding that I am reaching for my blazers not only for work, but also to wear as a light jacket back to my favorite destroyed skinnies and a tried-and-true graphic tee. They really are the perfect piece for so many different occasions and something everyone should have in their closet…

Vegas Recap

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that J and I were in Las Vegas last week for a long weekend and a bike race. We had a fantastic time and spent our days riding our road bikes through the Red Rock Canyon, attending Interbike, doing a little shopping, and (mostly) lounging by the pool. It was a fun and relaxing few days. But I have to say, my favorite part was the excuse to get extra dressed up for dinner in the evenings. And any excuse to throw on a little extra sparkle is a good enough excuse for me…

I don’t know about you guys, but I am so excited for the weekend, I can hardly stand it. It’s just been one of those weeks, I guess.

Perfect Harmony

I am loving the sneak peeks I am getting through social media from all of the happenings in NYC for Fashion Week. And I have to say that one trend I am happy to see will be continuing into the Spring 2014 season is black and white. In my opinion, no other color combo creates such perfect harmony while being so chic and effortless at the same time. Plus it creates the ideal canvas to add a pop of color, or a pretty metallic.
