Summer Fashion Hacks

There are two things I am really into this summer: destroyed boyfriend shorts with heels, and orange lipstick.  And for whatever reason, I seriously can’t seem to get enough either!  Maybe it’s because together or alone, they both give the perfect balance of making you look like you tried, even if you really didn’t.  And I’m here to tell you, that I’ll take advantage of any fashion hacks that come my way during the summer months!

Is it bad that’s only Tuesday and I already can’t wait for the weekend?  I don’t want to wish my summer away, but I just want to play!  lol

Happy Tuesday, sweet friends!

Fringe Benefits

I love a good striped dress.  And with the slightly cooler weather here in the SLC that has been layering itself in with our typically hot temps, I have found that some evenings, it’s nice to have a light coat with me as an option.  Plus these tassel shoes. I can’t even.  I’m pretty sure they are my favorite purchase from the #NSale.  They are less than $90 and also come in black and red.  So if you are looking for a pair of really fun statement shoes, then look no further, my friends.  Happy Monday!

Short Story

I am loving boyfriend shorts this season.  And because it has been a little cooler in the SLC the past few days, they have been a perfect choice to wear back to my favorite button-down shirts and wedges.  In fact, it’s felt like a bit of a summer uniform for me.  I mean really, what’s easier to put together than denim and gingham?

Stripes

I am really on a stripe kick these days.  And this dress from Express is seriously one of my very pieces in my closet.  It is cute and comfy and the perfect piece to throw on for a BBQ, bike ride, dinner at home, or for a night on the town.  All you have to do is change out your shoes and jewelry and it takes on a completely different personality every time. In fact, I love this dress so much (and it’s on sale for such a great price!) that I just picked it up in two more colors!  If there is one dress you buy this summer, I am telling you, this is the one.  You’re welcome!

Summer Chambray

We have had a little break from the heat wave here in the SLC the past few days, which prompted me to break out my favorite lightweight summer chambray shirt.  I am a fan of chambray no matter the season, but one of my favorite ways to wear it is back to a full skirt.  And it was the perfect choice for the weather this week.  Especially because it gave me an excuse to wear my favorite wedges.  I seriously can’t get enough of these shoes!  If you are looking for a new pair of wedges this summer, I highly recommend them (linked below).  They also come in black and white!

Romper Time

When I stumbled on a romper version of my favorite shirt ever, I knew that I had to have it.  But because I have long legs, and a short torso (I’m still only 5’3″), I tend to struggle with finding rompers that fit my body type.  So when I put it on and it fit perfectly (and felt like pajamas!) it was a definite no-brainer.  And it really is a perfect summer addition to my wardrobe that is different than anything else I own, all the while being as familiar as my favorite shirt.  And an added bonus?  It’s the perfect thing to wear for the 4th of July paired back to red heels and a bold red lip!

Weekend Vibes

If you have followed this blog for any length of time, then you know that I love vests.  And this super soft, tribal printed one from Nordstrom Rack is no exception.  Vests are such a great item to throw on with a t-shirt and jeans, over a cute dress, with shorts and a tank-no matter the season, a vest is an easy piece to take a simple outfit up a notch.

Sheinside

I’ve been eyeing the Sheinside website for quite a while now.  So when they reached out and asked if I would be interested in trying out some of their clothes, I couldn’t help but oblige.  And while there were SO many cute things to choose from on their site, I ultimately settled on a dress that is almost identical to my favorite Free People dress (which you can see here).  At a mere price tag of $30 vs. the $148 original version, I wanted to compare the two and really get a feel for the quality of clothing on Sheinside.  And you guys, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. While it is a little shorter than the my Free People dress, I overall like the fit better.  The arms were also a little slimmer too, which I also prefer.  And I have to say, I was also quite impressed with the quality-not only the was the fabric very nice, but the dress was also fully lined.  After this experience, I will definitely be shopping with Sheinside again.  In fact, you can see my current wish list at the bottom of the post!

Tailor Made

As I’ve gotten older, I have learned the importance of a good tailor.  And that just because something doesn’t fit you off the rack, doesn’t mean that it can’t still work for you.  And the dress in today’s post is the perfect example.  My mom and I stumbled on this gem at Anthropologie when my parents were in town a couple of weekends ago.  It was originally $228 and we found it on the sale rack marked down to $48 (um, WOW!).  It was the gorgeous fabric that initially drew me to it, but the original length was tea length and it just swallowed me up and was really unflattering.  But neither of us could get over the fabric (you should see it in person!) so we hatched a plan to have it shortened and I took it to my tailor (who also couldn’t get over the fabric), and he shortened it for me for a mere $20.  And I have to say, I think it is one of my very favorite dresses in my closet right now.  I guess it goes to show that it can be worth it to think outside of the box a little bit.  So if you don’t have a tailor, I would definitely suggest finding a good one in your neighborhood-you just never know when they might come in handy!

Shifty

I am obsessed with long-sleeved shift dresses.  But you know what?  Cute ones are incredibly hard to find.  So when I decided I wanted one for our trip to Sonoma a couple of weeks ago, I knew I could count on my go-to LuLu’s to have some cute options.  And I have to say, as usual, they did not disappoint.  So if you have yet to check out LuLu’s, then I highly recommend that you do! They have a plethora of styles at really reasonable prices, quick shipping, and awesome customer service.  Plus, they are constantly adding new arrivals to their site, so there are always lots of fun things peruse!
