Nickel Creek

If you know me personally, then you know I LOVE music. And if you don’t, well now you know. I also have a pretty broad taste in music, thanks to my dad’s influence growing up and studying and pursuing music in college. And while my love for music is broad, there are a handful of bands/musicians that are especially near and dear to my heart. And one of those such bands is Nickel Creek. I have been a huge fan of theirs since the late ’90’s when I first fell in love with country and bluegrass. And when they broke up in 2007 before I had a chance to see them live, I was pretty devastated. So when they announced they were getting back together this year and starting to tour in May-I knew I absolutely had to see them. And as luck would have it, the 3rd stop on their Dotted Line tour just happened to be in Salt Lake City. So J and I scored amazing 3rd row tickets and have been counting down the days to the show. And I have got to tell you, the musical talent that this band possesses is truly mind-blowing. It was an absolutely incredible show and I can’t stop smiling today thinking of the magic we saw last night up on that stage. So if you love bluegrass or appreciate musical talent, then check and see if Nickel Creek is coming to your town. And if they are, GO SEE THEM! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Now on to today’s outfit, which is actually what I wore to the show last night. Casual, but cool with a fun pop of color. When I go to a concert or show I always like to wear a cute tank/cami with a jacket so that I can take the jacket off if I get warm, or leave it on if the venue is cool. In my book, it’s always good to be prepared for either possibility. I am also a high heel kind of girl, but always make sure to wear my comfy heels so that my feet can be sure to last through a night of dancing…

I find it to be kind of amusing when people use the term “Sorry I’m not sorry”. And I have to say, that is exactly how I feel every time I slip on these neon heels. In-vest-ed

There was a period in time that I wore this denim vest so much that I had to make a conscious effort not to wear it so often. And I did such a good job of avoiding it that it ended up buried in the back of my closet and forgotten about for a period of time. To me, there is just something about a vest (whether it be denim, down, leather, fur, etc.), that just adds that extra pop to any outfit. So I have to say, I absolutely LOVE these shoes, and I am super bummed about the dye transfer on them around my ankles (yikes!!). So I have to ask, does anyone out there have any good products or remedies to remove denim markings from suede? Please share if you do! Otherwise, these shoes are going to have to be worn with pants only from here on out!

Raven + Lily

I am pretty sure that yesterday was the first Monday that I haven’t shared a blog post since I launched All Dolled Up. And if you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, you should: alldolledupblog), then you know I have been in Boulder cheering on my hubby at Cyclorcross Nationals. And while we had a really fun weekend, horrible roads plus a sick husband on the drive home meant having to unexpectedly stay the night in a hotel in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. So my apologies for missing yesterday!

But now that I am back, I wanted to share with you an amazing company called Raven + Lily. I love to shop fair trade and have shared quite a few fair trade finds and companies on the blog in the past, and so I thought it was important to share the ah-mazingness of Raven + Lily with all of you. Raven + Lily is a company founded by two women who wanted to use fashion and ethical design as a “a platform to utilize those passions to alleviate poverty among women”. The necklace I am wearing in today’s post is a favorite of mine from their Ethiopian Collection and was created by HIV positive women from handmade beads made of melted bullet casings from previous war conflicts.
