There was a period in time when I went a little overkill on the whole polka dot thing, so I made a conscious effort to cut back. And in doing so, it’s been quite a while since I posted a polka dot look on the blog. So after a nice little hiatus, I finally feel like now is the appropriate time to bring polka dots back to All Dolled Up! Not to mention that it has been unseasonably warm here in Utah this week, and this sweater is the perfect transitional piece that feels fitting for a winter that is beginning to feel an awful lot like spring…

I love this sweatshirt. In fact, it was the only piece I ended up buying (well, keeping) from the 3.1 Phillip Lim and Target collaboration this past Fall. I love how playful and fun it is and I especially love that current fashion has made it perfectly acceptable to wear a good old sweatshirt back to boyfriend jeans, red lipstick, and high heels.

I get a lot of questions about the different red lipsticks that I wear on my blog. And so today, I wanted to share my four favorites with you. Now truth be told, I am a total lip gloss junkie and don’t usually tend to gravitate towards lipstick-mostly because I have always found them to be messy and uncomfortable. BUT since discovering these 4 products, I find myself wearing lipstick more and more often. And more importantly, actually liking it!

NARS Heat Wave: really fun orange/red; my go to in the summer; lightweight, but not super long lasting

STILA Fiery: burgundy red color; long lasting vinyl gloss that wears like a lipstick; pretty comfortable, and amazingly long lasting (even through drinking and eating); sponge applicator makes it easy to apply

URBAN DECAY Revolution in 69: true bright red, my personal favorite lipstick (in all colors!); super comfy, long lasting, easy to apply

MAC Ruby Woo: super fun color; cool red tone with a matte finish; a little drying-definitely pair with a gloss

Neutral

Even though I am a color person, sometimes there is nothing I crave more than a basic neutral outfit without any color what-so-ever. It is such a chic, blank slate and something about that just feels so refreshing. But I have to tell you, that when it came time to photograph this outfit, my husband laughed at me! Like, an actual, audible, are you really wearing that kind of a laugh! Turns out he thinks my vest looks like a shag rug! And I have to say, I think he’s right. But on the other hand, I also have to say that I love this vest. I tried to hunt down the original jacket version that was popular on so many blogs earlier this season, but didn’t have any luck. So I was thrilled to stumble upon it as a vest. And not only is it a vest (and I’m pretty obsessed with vests) but it’s super cozy and soft, and it even has pockets. So at the end of the day, I love it and am resolved to rock it-even if my husband thinks I look like I’m wearing a giant piece of carpet for a top!

In-vest-ed

There was a period in time that I wore this denim vest so much that I had to make a conscious effort not to wear it so often. And I did such a good job of avoiding it that it ended up buried in the back of my closet and forgotten about for a period of time. And so today, I couldn’t be happier to welcome it back to the rotation! To me, there is just something about a vest (whether it be denim, down, leather, fur, etc.), that just adds that extra pop to any outfit. It’s just tough to beat those pieces in your wardrobe that make you look like you put in a little extra effort when you really actually didn’t…

Casual Friday

Blogging is a very interesting world to be a part of. In fact, all of social media for that matter. We have the option to share with the world only what we want them to see-often times making our lives seem a little (or a lot) more perfect and glamorous than they really maybe are. Truth be told, I have a very demanding full-time job and so when I take photos for this blog, half the time I’m throwing something together as my husband is running out the door for work and we snap off a few rushed photos with our neighbors looking on (surely thinking we’re crazy). It’s not a fancy affair by any means (one of these days I’ll have to do an outfit outtake post so you guys can see just how awkward I really am in front of the camera). And while I try my best to give you guys a variety of outfit ideas from week to week, in my real, day-to-day life, I am pretty casual. So I have to say, I absolutely LOVE these shoes, and I am super bummed about the dye transfer on them around my ankles (yikes!!). So I have to ask, does anyone out there have any good products or remedies to remove denim markings from suede? Please share if you do! Otherwise, these shoes are going to have to be worn with pants only from here on out!

Raven + Lily

I am pretty sure that yesterday was the first Monday that I haven’t shared a blog post since I launched All Dolled Up. And if you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, you should: alldolledupblog), then you know I have been in Boulder cheering on my hubby at Cyclorcross Nationals. And while we had a really fun weekend, horrible roads plus a sick husband on the drive home meant having to unexpectedly stay the night in a hotel in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. So my apologies for missing yesterday!

But now that I am back, I wanted to share with you an amazing company called Raven + Lily. I love to shop fair trade and have shared quite a few fair trade finds and companies on the blog in the past, and so I thought it was important to share the ah-mazingness of Raven + Lily with all of you. Raven + Lily is a company founded by two women who wanted to use fashion and ethical design as a “a platform to utilize those passions to alleviate poverty among women”. The necklace I am wearing in today’s post is a favorite of mine from their Ethiopian Collection and was created by HIV positive women from handmade beads made of melted bullet casings from previous war conflicts.
